Quick answer: Before appealing a suspended Google Business Profile, check the profile against Google’s policies and organise evidence that explains the business, its location and how it serves customers. A well-prepared case makes your explanation easier to assess; it does not guarantee reinstatement.
A suspension can interrupt an important source of enquiries. The pressure to get the profile back quickly is understandable, but submitting an appeal before reviewing the facts can leave avoidable gaps in your case.
This guide is for business owners, agencies and local SEO professionals preparing a suspension appeal. My approach is to build a clear case: identify the issue, check the profile, connect the evidence and explain any genuine corrections.
First, confirm what has actually happened
Record the notice you received, the affected profile and the status shown in your account. A profile suspension, an account restriction and a verification problem need different handling. A business disappearing from a search result alone does not establish which one you are dealing with.
Keep a simple case log with the Business Profile ID, previous Maps link, relevant emails, recent changes and any support case number. For agency work, agree who will submit and monitor the appeal so that the owner and agency do not work from different versions of the case.
Review the profile before collecting more files
Use Google’s guidelines for representing your business to check eligibility, the real-world business name and the location setup. A rented mailing address where the business does not operate is not an eligible location. An office in a coworking space must meet Google’s signage, staffing and customer reception requirements.
Correct information that is genuinely inaccurate or non-compliant. Keep a record of what you changed and why. Avoid experimenting with names, addresses or categories merely to see whether the suspension disappears.
Prepare evidence that tells one coherent story
Google lists business registration, licences, tax certificates and business utility bills as examples of supporting evidence. It asks you to check that the business name and address on the documents correspond to the profile. See the official suspension and appeal instructions.
As a practical preparation step, give each file a purpose. Ask: what does this prove, which part of the case does it support, and does it introduce a discrepancy I need to explain? A large folder is less useful than a small, relevant set that the reviewer can follow.
- Business identity: organise the records that identify the entity and, where relevant, connect its legal name with its trading name.
- Location: select current records relating to the actual operating base or customer-facing premises.
- Real-world operations: where relevant, add authentic photographs of the premises, entrance, fixed signage, equipment or work vehicles. These are supplementary context, not a replacement for eligibility.
- Explanation: write a short note connecting the documents to the specific business and location under review.
If a company operates several locations, distinguish company-wide documents from location-specific evidence. Explain which documents establish the company’s identity and which show the affected branch. Do not leave the reviewer to infer that connection.
Service-area businesses: explain where and how you work
If you travel to customers and do not receive them at your base, Google’s guidelines require a service-area setup with the address hidden from customers. Hiding the address does not remove the need to explain the real operating base in your appeal.
For example, a plumber working from home should describe that arrangement plainly: the residential address is the operating base, customers are served at their premises, and the profile reflects that model. Select genuine evidence relevant to the business. Do not manufacture storefront signage or present a private home as a shop.
Write a factual appeal explanation
I recommend drafting the explanation before opening the appeal flow. Describe the service, how customers interact with the business, the issue you reviewed and the evidence attached. If you corrected a specific problem, say exactly what was corrected.
The following is a structure to adapt using verified facts, not a statement to paste unchanged:
[Business name] provides [service] from [actual location or operating base]. [Customers visit the premises / the business travels to customers]. I reviewed [relevant profile details or policy issue] and corrected [specific issue, if applicable]. The attached [documents] support [business identity and location]. [Photographs or other relevant evidence] show [what they establish]. I request a review of the suspension based on this information.
Replace every placeholder and remove any claim you cannot support. Follow the character limit displayed by the form; where a field allows 1,000 characters, keep the explanation within that limit and avoid repeating details already entered elsewhere.
Pre-appeal checklist
- I have identified the affected profile and recorded the restriction notice.
- I have checked the relevant eligibility and representation policies.
- The profile describes the actual business and operating model.
- I can explain any differences between legal and trading names or location records.
- My evidence is current, readable and relevant to this profile.
- Each supporting file has a clear name and purpose.
- My appeal explanation is factual and fits the form’s limit.
- One person is responsible for submission and follow-up.
Submit only when your case is ready
Have the files ready before submitting. Google’s suspension guide gives a 60-minute window for submitting evidence once the evidence form is opened. Follow the instructions shown in your appeal flow and save the submission confirmation.
Do not create a replacement profile for the same business while the appeal is being reviewed. Monitor the appeal status. If the request is denied, Google describes an additional-review route that may allow further evidence. If an account restriction is involved, follow the account-specific instructions before addressing the profile appeal.
Common questions
Does a business licence guarantee reinstatement?
No. A licence can support your case, but it does not resolve every question about the location, business model or profile information. Review the whole case.
Should I change everything before appealing?
No. Make corrections for a clear factual or policy reason, and document them. Unnecessary changes can make your own case harder to explain.
Can an agency prepare the case?
An agency can organise the review with the owner’s authorisation. The owner should confirm the operating facts and provide authentic records. Agree who will handle the appeal and keep the evidence together.
